My dear friend, the import of what we have endeavored to emphasize in the previous teachings is for us to know that the secret to that great faith for advancement in every area of our lives is to know about the great grace of God towards us in Christ Jesus. That dimension of grace was referred to in Romans 5:17 as "...the abundance of grace..."
And what does it mean? It means the limitless, undeserved and unmerited favor of God towards us in Christ. It refers to the works of God on our behalf in Christ. It is the restoration pathway of God for us in Christ. It is our divine access to the inheritance that Christ procured for us through the downpayment of his blood. Hallelujah!!!
But despite the free nature of the Grace of God, some have argued that grace is not free. And while we concur to the fact that Grace was not free for Jesus because it cost Jesus his blood, we must remember that it is free for us, because it cost us nothing.
Some have also said that we have to move God by our faith, and I say "No. God had already moved by grace on our behalf ever before we were born, and ever before we knew what faith meant. We only need to respond to that grace with our faith in love (Ephesians 2:8)."
And some have even said that grace teaches people to be lazy and docile and I say, "No. the enabling grace of God (Hebrews 4:16) energizes us to labor for God in love without feeling the stress that comes through laboring in fear (1 Corinthians 15:10-26)."
Romans 5:17 further teaches that the abundant grace of God can only be RECEIVED, not ACHIEVED. Many have tried in their futility to earn the grace of God. They have tried to earn the ability to stand in God's presence through their performance only to realize that the more they tried to do that, the more feeling of guilt, condemnation, and unworthiness they experienced.
Friend, our faith can only respond to what God had already given to us by grace. That is why the easiest way to live a righteous life is to first of all accept that you have received the gift of righteousness according to this scripture:
"For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ." (Romans 5:17)
Take note of the fact that a gift is not what you earned or achieved, a gift is what you received because of the benevolence of the giver. The difference between a gift and a prize is that a gift is given but a prize is earned.
Let Us Pray:
Father in the name of Jesus,
I pray that the workings of divine grace will find practical expression in our lives today. That the works of our hands, will radiate the beauty and excellence of God today. That our ministries, careers and businesses would experience the fresh grace of God for fresh restoration in Jesus name. Amen! Let us hear from you. Shalom!
