One of the golden nuggets of life that can help to nurture your advancement is to master the art of being yourself. The art of being yourself is an off-shoot of self-discovery. You discover that place of bliss in you, you find your own voice in a cacophony of echoes, you seize from dancing to every tune that plays around you, you know in your knower that you are in this world with a mission, for a purpose and to carry out an assignment.
John the Baptist discovered that higher calling and described himself as "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias" (John 1:23) Jesus discovered that sense of purpose and declared, "for this cause came I into the world." (John 18:37). Paul the apostle found it when he wrote, "when it pleased God who separated me from my mother's womb and made me by his grace...(Galatians 1:15)"
Kindly take note that this sense of purpose is not only in the area of preaching from the pulpit in a church, it can also be in the market-place of life. It can also be in the area of business, public service, professional inclinations, etc.
During a Valedictory speech in High school, my school principal had given us this parting shot:
"My dear boys and girls, to your own self, be true in life."
I am persuaded that that parting shot is still very relevant in our day today. Following the divine trajectory of your own life could be very challenging in a world that is full of competing distractions. Imitating the norm seem normal and convenient, copying the popular approach seem to be the easy way out, but kindly remember that fulfillment is never found in the school of imitation. It only comes when you discover and pursue that sense of calling in your area of assignment.
Sam Walton, founder of the Wal-Mart stores excelled above his contemporaries because he chose to change the norm of retail business in America through the concept of discounted pricing.
Actor, Chris Pratt suggests this:
"Just be yourself and forget all of the stuff you read in 'GQ' magazine." ~Chris Pratt
Yes, you need to avoid the rat race in town. Make an inventory of your gifting and talents. Lay aside the weights of comparison. Listen to the voice of the Spirit in you as you run the race that is set before you by destiny.
Prayer Of Declaration
Father in the name of Jesus, I boldly declare that I will follow your leading for my life. I receive grace from you today, to master the art of being myself in Christ Jesus. Amen.
