Rejection does not always mean that you have a bad product or service in the market place of life. Rejection is just part and parcel of the equation of success. To demonstrate this idea that rejection is part and parcel of the challenge that we must be prepared to handle in life, Jesus trained his disciples concerning how to handle rejections when he sent them out to preach the good news of the gospel. Does that mean that his disciples had bad products to offer? Certainly not! Jesus understood that regardless of the excellence of the product that you have to offer, there would still be those who would reject it. Not because you are bad, not because your products and services are bad, but because bias and prejudice sometimes reign like a king in the mindset of the ignorant. In addition to that, some individuals may just want to exercise their right of choice to say no the first time. Some other people just don’t see any need for you, despite your inherent virtues. For example in 1919, the editor of Walt Disney at the Kansas City Star fired him for the simple reason that Walt Disney lacked imagination and had no good ideas.
So, when you face rejections in life, kindly follow the steps of Jesus:
Acknowledge the rejection: Jesus told his disciples to watch out for those individuals and towns that would not accept their messages. So, acknowledge it for what it is. Living in denial is not the way out.
Shake off the mental dust: Prayerfully program your mind to see that rejection as an external thing. Refuse to allow the mental stigma of that rejection to hang on you for too long. Simply shake it off, push it off, and knock it off.
Move on physically: Move to the next level, move to the next assignment, move to the next item on your to-do list, move to the next project, make another call and visit another client.
Yes, never build a monument on your rejections, for those who fail in the battle against rejection are those who refused to shake off the dust of rejection from their mental feet. So, receive grace to shake it off today! Remember that God loves you! Remember that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. And...#KeepAdvancing!
“And whoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when you depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet” (Matthew 10:14).
I receive your enabling grace to forge ahead in a bigger and better way today, in Jesus name…AMEN!
