The need to grow from one level of life to a higher level of life is a generally accepted need of the human being. That need for personal growth is what I call "the seed of advancement." It is a seed that is trapped within the consciousness of every person that can only be unleashed when the need for personal-development is recognized. It is a seed that is yearning for expression in our day-to-day activities. It is a seed that is growing day by day within us.
Former president of the United States, President Abraham Lincoln understood this truth and said:
“I am a slow walker, but I never walk back”
Motivational speaker, Jim Rohn caught a glimpse of the need for personal-development and advised:
“Don’t wish that things were easier, wish that you were better.”
Paul the apostle nailed it on the head when he wrote:
“Forgetting those things which are behind, I press toward the mark of the prize…”
This tendency for growth and advancement is what propels a child to want to grow into an adult, so as to exercise the rights of an adult without parental restrictions. That is why a Christian wants to grow in grace and love so as to manifest the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living; a pastor wants to grow an impactful ministry that would effectively address the issues of life that trouble the hearts of the people, a business person wants to grow in sales and profit through an enlarged customer base, a career person wants to grow through the ranks at the workplace through consistent promotions, a student wants to grow through the classes without the discomfort of failing a class, an effective leader wants to grow in the leadership experience by exercising an enlarged sphere of positive influence, the sick person wants to grow in health through the glorious manifestation of sound health, the financially-challenged person wants to grow into financial independence without the fear of worrying about the next paycheck, the housewife wants to grow the character and splendor of her family, the salesman wants to grow in sales. Friends, never discard the desire for personal growth. For growth is proof that you are alive. #KeepAdvancing!
"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 3:14).
